The Queensland Government has announced that from 1am AEST Saturday 15 January 2022, domestic travellers will no longer face restrictions to enter the state.
Queensland Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk has announced that domestic travellers will no longer be required to present a negative COVID-19 test or complete a border pass before they enter the state from 1am AEST Saturday 15 January 2022.
The border restrictions were originally scheduled to be lifted when 90% of the state’s population aged 16 and over were vaccinated. Currently 88.3% of the population are vaccinated.
She said; “Now is the time for the barricades to come down, and for the police to come home, to continue on their normal operational duties on the front lines.
“The time is now right as we head to 90% next week.”
International travellers will still face restrictions until the state reaches the 90% vaccination target.
Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath told the ABC that the government was waiting because international arrivals are the ones bringing in the new variants.
She said that they still need to look at international arrivals carefully, particularly those who are unvaccinated.
