The Cahill Expressway, normally home to waves of Sydney commuters’ cars, will be reclaimed by the people this January, when street festival Elevate Sydney hosts a range of Australian stars from The Wiggles to Tim Minchin and Tones and I.
The six-day cultural and entertainment festival will run from January 1-6, 2022, with registration for free tickets now open.
Beyond a series of musical performances, you can also expect a light show put on by 500 choreographed drones, an opening night First Nations celebration, talks from leading sports figures and a mini-festival within Elevate Kids that will extend the fun to your little ones.
Elevate Sydney Creative Director Anthony Bastic said the festival will be about capturing the current mood of the city.
“People need to be elevated with something that lifts our spirits and reinvigorates us. This event will provide an opportunity for everyone across Sydney to come out and totally elevated and leave on a high.
“Once you’ve ascended the Cahill Expressway you’ll go through a tunnel of colour. I wanted people to shake off the grey and rise on to this platform which has one of the best views of Sydney Harbour,” he said.
