Ningaloo Reef is famous for being one of the best places in the world to swim with the ocean’s largest fish, the whale shark, however, it’s just as great to swim with humpback whales and an estimated 40,000 of them migrate along the WA coast.
The end of Ningaloo’s whale shark season is late July which overlaps with the start of the humpback season, so it is possible to witness both whales in the one tour.
Tours run from Coral Bay and Exmouth, with up to seven guests hopping in the water at a time. There are also plenty of whale-watching options available if you’re not looking to dive in.
To visit Ningaloo, fly into Perth and take a stunning 12-hour road trip north or fly into Learmonth, near Exmouth.
