Community-owned Indigenous organisation Bamaga Enterprises, which runs Cape York Peninsula Lodge in Far North Queensland, has received $100,000 from the Federal Government’s Indigenous Tourism Fund. The grant will enable Bamaga to purchase a purpose-built 18-passenger 4WD for its new cultural tours.

Chair of Bamaga Enterprises Robert Poipoi said: “It will enable these types of travellers to extend their stay at Cape York Peninsula Lodge and will also be suitable for the family-adventure market … The opportunity for tourists to experience and understand the [Northern Peninsula Area’s] Indigenous culture is not being sufficiently met at the moment, so we’re excited that we will soon be able to offer this.”
