After months of deprivation, readers of Explore, Australian Community Media’s national travel supplement, are ready to travel again, with 90 per cent planning their next holiday right now.
Perhaps no surprises that 73 per cent say their first break will be in Australia – with hotels and resorts firm favourites for families at 47 per cent, and Airbnb and similar country home rentals at 20 per cent.
Even though they are banned at present, cruising is an obvious favourite at 31 per cent.
A quarter of readers say they are ready to dust off suitcases and fly to their next holiday – with Europe and the UK way out front as favourites at 65 per cent. Catching up with relatives after two years of separation is seen as the big driver here.
But local holidays remain the big drawcard for now, with three-quarters saying NSW, Victoria or Queensland is top of their wish list.
The top five holiday types:
- Hotels and resorts
- Cruises
- Holiday home rentals
- Drive holidays
- Camping and caravanning
What’s influencing holiday decisions? Health and safety precautions are paramount, followed by affordability and destination.
