Luxury expedition cruise line Ponant has launched its first hybrid-electric polar ship.
Le Commandant-Charcot is powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), a major innovation that strengthens the company’s commitment to sustainable tourism. The Polar Class 2 ship includes the latest green technologies with 100 per cent of waste to be sorted on board.
The ship is fitted out for research, providing the scientific world with a platform to study the extreme polar regions. Guests in its 123 staterooms will be treated to lectures from experts, hovercraft, ice fishing and more. Le Commandant-Charcot will travel to the world’s most remote regions, such as the Geographic North Pole, Northeast Greenland’s National Park, Svalbard archipelago and the Larsen Ice Shelf.
