Lasseters Hotel and Casino, known for being in the 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, is getting a $100 million makeover.
Iris Capital is buying the property and plans to inject large amounts of cash to build a new hotel, as well as upgrading the convention centre and residential space.
Lasseters is hoping to more than double room numbers to 405.
Lasseters CEO Craig Jervis said: “It’s a phenomenal amount of money and fantastic for Central Australia and the tourism offering that we will have in 24 months time.”
Tourism Central Australia CEO Danial Rochford said: “It’s certainly a great shot in the arm for the sector that’s been struggling as a result of the pandemic.”
“What it does show is great confidence in the future for tourism.”
