Next year, the world’s best cyclists will descend on Wollongong from September 18-25 as the seaside town hosts the 2022 UCI Road World Championships for the first time.
More than 1000 of the top international cyclists from over 70 nations globally will test their grit, mettle and dogged ability to win the coveted gold medal and rainbow jersey.
Watched by more than 300 million viewers around the globe, the championships is one of the top five sporting events in the world.
With its close proximity to the ocean and some of New South Wales’s amazing coastline and stunning beaches, Wollongong is just an 80-kilometre cycle ride south of Sydney.
The largest annual road cycling championships will offer road races, time trials, team time trials for elite men and women cyclists; under 23 men, junior men and women and mixed team. There will also be cultural events and community activities.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the worldwide governing body for cycling, founded in Paris in 1900.
