A huge exhibition, The Picasso Century, is coming to the National Gallery of Victoria, featuring over 70 of Picasso’s works as well as over 100 works of his contemporaries, handpicked from French national collections.
The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition positions Picasso amongst his contemporaries, including Salvador Dalí and Gertrude Stein, to give more context to his journey as an artist and how his influence broke down borders and extended across the world.
Tony Ellwood, director of the NGV, said: “This exhibition offers visitors an extraordinary insight into the development of modern art and the preeminent figure at its centre, Pablo Picasso.
“Through more than 170 works of art – including many that have never been seen in Australia – audiences will come to appreciate the many ways in which Picasso influenced, and was influenced by, the artistic community that surrounded him.”
The exhibition starts on June 10 and runs to October 9, and tickets are priced at $30 per adult, $10 per child and $65 per family.
