The time-honoured tradition of sitting on the carriage stills of the Puffing Billy has returned.
After a short temporary suspension, it has been announced the guests are once again able to ride with their legs dangling over the train’s edge.
The three-hour journey on Australia’s premier preserved steam railway travels through Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges from Belgrave to Lakeside.
Since 1900, the family-led experience has allowed guests to become immersed in the sights and sounds of the Dandenong Ranges’ diverse ecosystem of forestry, rolling hillsides and open farmland.
Sitting on the carriage sill is only permitted for those over four years old, and only on the one-hour ride between Belgrave and Lakeside stations.
Passengers can bring their four-legged family members on a special Lakeside to Gembrook service.
Return tickets start from $61 per adult, $31.50 per child and $153.50 per family.
