There will soon be a new way to navigate the laneways and streets of Melbourne, with e-scooters set to launch this month for a 12-month trial.
Some 500 Lime and Neuron e-scooters will be delivered across the Melbourne, Yarra and Port Phillip local government areas and made available to rent via a smartphone app.
On an e-scooter you can expect to reach speeds of up to 20 kilometres an hour, but you can’t ride on footpaths – you’ll need to stick to bike lanes, shared paths and some roads.
You can use the app to locate nearby e-scooters and work out where to park once you’ve set off.
The City of Melbourne website outlines the rules which require wearing a helmet, travelling at a safe speed for the environment, riding to the conditions, considering others when parking and no passengers.
The City of Ballarat is also taking part in the trial.
