Earlier this year, Venice was set to introduce its much debated tourist tax in a bid to reduce overcrowding. The new fee particularly targets day tourists who will need to present pre-paid tickets before entering the city. But the historic Italian city has announced it will now introduce the tax in January 2023, rather than this European summer.
When the tax is introduced, residents, students and commuters will be exempt. And tourists who stay for at least one night at a hotel will also be exempt.
It’s believed the cost of the ticket will fluctuate. In high season, tourists will be paying as much as €10 ($10.71), while in the winter it’ll be closer to €3 ($3.21).
