Departing on August 6, the Scarlet Lady, the first ship from Richard Branson-owned cruise line Virgin Voyages departed Portsmouth on its maiden voyage. Currently the ship is sailing at 65 per cent capacity and scheduled for six ‘staycations’ in the United Kingdom, rather than more exotic itineraries.
The adults-only Scarlet Lady’s arrival has been highly anticipated. The Scarlet Lady will accommodate 4400 passengers and crew, has 17 decks and is equipped with a high-tech gym which has a boxing ring and even a tattoo parlour.
Virgin Voyages chief commercial officer Nirmal Saverimuttu told CNN Travel: “We wanted to create a sophisticated yet relaxed adults-only experience on these beautifully designed ships that are yacht-inspired.” Prices for the UK sailings begin from $940 for three-nights and $1120 for four-nights, with future itineraries including various Caribbean and European adventures.
