Initially scheduled to begin in under a months time on August 6, Vivid has been pushed back to September and October.
The festival dates will now be from September 17 to October 9. Current ticket holders can transfer their tickets to the new time dates or receive a refund.
Full details are yet to be confirmed on the rescheduling, and the festival has been postponed due to the spread of COVID in Sydney. There are currently 785 active cases across the state.
In a statement the festival said: “We know everyone wants to see Sydney shining brightly so, in the interest of public health and safety, we are moving Vivid Sydney to a later date.”
“It will take a little time to work through all the details – thank you for your patience while we recharge and power up for a spectacular COVID-safe celebration of creativity and innovation this Spring.”
Stuart Ayres, the Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney told The Music, “Destination NSW will continue to work with NSW Health and other agencies to deliver a COVID-safe Vivid Sydney later this year, with support from our event partners, artists, sponsors and suppliers.”
“Vivid Sydney will only proceed if it’s safe to do so.”
Vivid was also cancelled last March due to COVID concerns and it will be up to the spread and management of the virus as to whether we see Sydney light up this year.
