At last – Western Australia has opened the door to interstate and even international travellers from March 3 – providing you are triple vaccinated you’ll be allowed in without quarantine.
Even international arrivals will be allowed in if they take a rapid antigen test within 12 hours of arrival.
The hardline Premier Mark McGowan conceded “the virus is already here and we cannot stop its spread”. WA expects 10,000 new cases a day by the end of March.
“There comes a point where the border is redundant, because we’ll already have the growth of cases here, having the border is no longer effective.”
All interstate arrivals will be provided with a RAT test kit .
The move is good news for the desperate tourism businesses and airlines clamouring to restart travel around Australia. WA is the last holdout state.
Just last week, tourism businesses warned many will close if the borders remained shut. WA had been expecting 11,000 international travellers in the first two weeks after the border opened compared to the current weekly cap of just 500 arrivals.
Kimberley tourism will be particularly ecstatic that the gates are open. They had warned of dire economic consequences to indigenous businesses.
