Kakadu National Park is Australia’s largest, and situated 249 kilometres east of Darwin. The massive area itself spans 20,000 square kilometres, with much biological and ecological diversity to be found.
Visiting the park, you’ll see floodplains, lowlands, tidal flats and plenty of rare and endemic flora and fauna. There are tons of stunning waterfalls and gorges as well, including Twin Falls, Gunlom Falls, Jim Jim Falls and Maguk.
Home to the Bininj/Mungguy people, more than 5,000 Aboriginal rock art sites reside in the park too.
With its rich cultural significance and natural attractions, it’s no wonder Kakadu has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you love hiking, you’ll never run out of trails to explore at Kakadu. Looking to take it easy? Check out Anbanbbang Billabong and Bardedjilidji Sandstone Walk − short trails perfect for novices.
If you’re up for a challenge, steeper hikes include the Twin Falls Plateau Walk and Mirrai Lookout Walk.
Of course, don’t forget to check out the spectacular Aboriginal rock art of the area. The 1.5 kilometre Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art walk leads you to its namesake rock art site.
Don’t miss out on the waterfalls as well, especially the magnificent Jim Jim and Twin Falsl.

Or try out the signature ‘Taste of Kakadu’ tasting plate at Barra Bar and Bistro, which includes smoked and marinated crocodile, chargrilled buffalo sausages and kangaroo fillet. For the less-adventurous, Kakadu Lodge in Jabiru offers scrumptious bistro-style meals like beef burgers and pasta. There’s also Munmalary Bar in Aurora Kakadu resort, with steaks, fresh barramundi, parmas and bar foods.
