Discover the charm of Queensland from its golden sandy beaches and blue waters to the big open skies and red dirt of the Outback.

Nicknamed the sunshine state, it is located in Australia’s northeast.

It’s a big state with 7000kms of coastline and is the same size as Mexico, Indonesia and Mongolia.

Queensland has lots to offer when it comes to adventure, family holidays, romantic getaways and food and wine escapes.

Due to the vastness, its geographical features and climates are diverse.

You will find tropical rainforests, rivers, coral reefs, mountain ranges and sandy beaches in its tropical and sub-tropical coastal regions, as well as deserts and savanna in the semi-arid and desert climatic regions of its interior.

Brisbane that sits on the Brisbane River is the state capital and has recently seen a host of slick hotels and new eateries popping up.

Tropical Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the lush Daintree Rainforest.

The Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system that hosts thousands of marine species, is the star of the show.

It is made up of 2900 individual reefs and 900 islands sprawled over 2300 kilometres.

A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which assists  with limiting the impact of human use, such as fishing and tourism.

The World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest is home to ancient ferns, emerald green vines and lush canopy that provided inspiration for the movie Avatar.

The extraordinary rain forest meets the Great Barrier Reef at Cape Tribulation at the top of Queensland.

No wonder Sir David Attenborough described it as “the most extraordinary place on Earth.” 

Cape Tribulation is a bushwalking paradise with many short walks taking in the beaches or rainforest.

The golden surfing beaches and fun theme parks of the Gold Coast appeal to all age groups.

Queensland’s coastline is home to the world’s three largest sand islands, Fraser, Moreton and North Stradbroke.

As for the Queensland Outback, it’s all about the awesome landscape, starry nights and golden sunsets.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t pass another car for hundreds of kilometres.

There are some amazing gorges and waterways such as the Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park, near the Riversleigh World Heritage Area.

But it is not until you spend a night camping under the stars that you fully appreciate the wide-open spaces and those expansive skies.
