With a ride to suit every cyclist, Victoria’s High Country is recognised as Australia’s premium cycling destination. Take the 7 Peaks Challenge and cycle up all of Victoria’s Alpine ascents. Flow along seemingly endless singletrack and world-class downhill mountain bike trails, or slow it down and visit local wineries, breweries and farm gates on a delightful and delicious rail trail ride.
Ride High Country
Tackle the 7 Peaks Ride, an at-your-own-pace cycling challenge, which runs from October to April each year. Traverse winding mountain roads, and take in the spectacular views at the top of Victoria’s seven alpine peaks. Ride independently or join one of the many tour operators who run tours specifically to conquer one or more of the 7 Peaks. No registration needed – simply choose your dates and plan your route. Ride one peak, or challenge yourself and complete all seven.
A relaxed degree of difficulty
Take a meandering journey on one of the breathtakingly beautiful rail trails in the region – Murray to Mountains, High Country Rail Trail or the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
Arm yourself with a map, two wheels and a few mates to track down Victoria’s best fresh produce on one of the Pedal to Produce cycling routes. Get on your bike and discover local producers in Bright, Wandiligong, Rutherglen and Milawa and fill your basket with gourmet cheeses, fresh berries, wine and olives along the way.
Mountain high
Home to half of Victoria’s recognised mountain bike tracks, from cross-country routes for all abilities to singletrack and flow trails, the High Country is mountain biking’s new frontier. Bring your wheels and work your way through the seven purpose built mountain bike parks in the region.
Bright’s Mystic Mountain Bike Park will keep you busy, navigating the near 100 kilometres of singletrack through pine forest, while Falls Creek is now linked to Mount Beauty via their Flowtown trail. Head up to Mount Buller and test your endurance on their EPIC trail, a world-class course acknowledged by the International Mountain Biking Association. Don’t forget about Flame Trees in Beechworth (designed by the World Trail crew) or Yackandandah’s singletrack paradise at Yack Tracks.
