Melbourne is leading the way on sports events. In the wake of the Australian Open Tennis Tournament, the 2022 Formula 1 will be going ahead after a three-year hiatus from the city.
The event kicks off on April 7 and Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Andrew Westacott is expecting
the “strongest crowds in two decades” – organisers are currently installing extra stands for more seating capacity.
Mr Westacott is also confident there will be no COVID interruptions: “I can assure you at every step of the way we have had dialogue with Formula One and the government. I can confidently say the event will be going ahead.”
Ticket sales have also been running at racetrack speed, so you’ll need to get your foot to the floor to bag a seat.
The last time Australia hosted a Grand Prix race was in 2019 and it generated approximately $40 million for Victoria’s economy, with 25,000 locals in attendance and 9000 international tourists
