Western Australia is opening its border to vaccinated travellers at 12:01am on Thursday March 3. Interstate and international travellers will have to be fully vaccinated if they want to skip quarantine.
Interstate travellers will have to have had three doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. International arrivals only have to had two doses of an approved vaccine because their arrival falls under Commonwealth legislation which only requires two doses.
Unvaccinated travellers are required to quarantine for 14 days.
All arrivals into WA will need to download a G2G Pass so that the government can track visitors and will have to take a rapid antigen test (RAT) within 12 hours of their arrival, with any positive result being reported to authorities and the person will be required to quarantine for 14 days. The open border means that some restrictions have been reintroduced to reduce the risk of an outbreak.
The two-square-metre rule at gyms, hospitality venues and other places has returned. Nightclubs are limited to 500 people or must observe the two-square-metre rule, whichever number is lower. Home gatherings are capped at 30 people and outdoor gatherings can include a maximum of 200 people. Stadiums, cinemas and theatres can only operate at 75-per-cent capacity, which means that only 45,000 people are permitted at Perth Stadium.
The restrictions apply to any region that has community spread of the virus. This currently includes Perth, Peel, South West, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and Pilbara.
Meanwhile people in the Kimberley, Goldfields, Mid-West and Goldfields-Esperance regions are subject to an indoor mask mandate but no other restrictions.
One restriction is being removed due to the difficulties enforcing the rule: the requirement for shoppers to show proof of vaccination at bottle shops.
QR codes are being reviewed, however, Premier Mark McGowan has said that the requirement remains in place for now.
Jetstar is selling Sydney–Perth roundtrip flights for $502 with one stop in Melbourne, or $905 for a non-stop flight on Qantas. Flights from Melbourne to Perth return start at $693 on Virgin Australia, and from $673 from Brisbane, with one stop in Melbourne on Jetstar.
