Wildlife photographer and adventurer Mick Fogg has led over 300 Ponant expeditions in the Asia Pacific region, sharing his passion for exploration with guests. Here he tells Explore what he loves about Australia.
“If I was to name one destination as a favourite it would be the rugged, remote and spectacular Kimberley region,” he said.
“The ancient landscape is the epitome of a sunburnt country, with the vast plains and rugged red sandstone gorges quintessentially Australia and like nowhere else on earth.
“The sheer size and age of the landscape is humbling,” said Mr Fogg. “It is home to the oldest continuous culture on earth, the world’s largest living reptile, the only two ‘Horizontal Falls’ on the planet and the world’s largest inshore reef. The Aboriginal rock art heritage of the Kimberley is on a scale second to none.
“Growing up on a diet of Harry Butler and Malcolm Douglas documentaries, I was always drawn to the Kimberley … It is a destination that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.”
