Luxury brand Louis Vuitton has been at the centre of ridicule after it revealed the price for its latest creation for men – a $50,000 airplane shaped handbag.
And some social media users have found that the bag costs more than an actual plane.

You could even buy yourself a first class ticket to fly to London and still have enough money leftover to ride the London Eye 527 times, just to give yourself a fighting chance of actually riding it in nice weather. However, while a first class ticket will definitely earn you some miles, Qantas and Virgin are yet to comment if the plane bag will count towards their flight reward programs.
South West Airlines was not ready to take this lying down, immediately launching a competing product to try and disrupt Louis Vuitton’s monopoly.
The bags designer Virgil Abloh conceptualised the bag with its slogan, “Tourist v Purist”. Mr Abloh wrote, “It’s my organising principle for my point of view when I make things. A tourist is someone who’s eager to learn, who wants to see the Eiffel Tower when they come to Paris. The purist is the person who knows everything about everything.”
It is not yet clear which one the bag is designed for or if Mr Abloh does or doesn’t want to visit the Eiffel Tower. Although, one could speculate that carrying around a giant plane-shaped bag could perhaps lead to you being marked as a tourist. In fact if you consider an overseas mugging to be an authentic and fulfilling experience, this could be the bag to make that happen for you.
Between the outrageously impractical wingspan of the bag, its stark resemblance to something on the shelves of Toys-R-Us and the inevitable social shunning that would come with its ownership, it seems like your next logical travel purchase.
