With half-priced flights launching on 1 April, here is what you need to know about the government’s tourism campaign.
Where can I go?
There are 18 eligible destinations which are part of the tourism campaign. These destinations are Adelaide, Lasseter and Kangaroo Island in South Australia; Cairns, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island, Maroochydore, Proserpine and Townsville in Queensland; Avalon in Victoria; Burnie, Devonport, Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania; Alice Springs and Darwin in Northern Territory as well as Broome in Western Australia.
When can I book my ticket?
The government’s discount airfares started from 1 April until the end of July. The travel dates will vary according to the airline. And a total of 800,000 tickets will be up for grabs all at once. The government is also considering supplementing the additional 800,000 tickets.
Which airlines are taking part in the campaign?
Most of the routes will be serviced through Qantas and Jetstar but Virgin Australia will also be part of the campaign and some of the regional routes will be serviced by Rex.
Is there accommodation available at these destinations?
The government had not signalled to supplement accommodation at these destinations. There are reports that accommodation is now becoming increasingly difficult to find in destinations like Broome. Tourism operators in Merimbula and Kangaroo Island have also seen a surge in bookings with few beds available. If you’re thinking of booking one of those half-price tickets, book quickly.
