Best for: Take a walk along the Ringstrasse, a glorious boulevard that replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century. See the magnificent Hofburg Palace, the winter residence of the Habsburgs and take a tour of its interior. Then stop by the Spanish Riding School, home to the world-famous Lipizzaner stallions known as "the dancing white horses of Vienna".
Best time to visit: To enjoy the sun and Vienna's cafe culture, visit between April and October. But if you want to explore some of the world's most incredible Christmas markets, go at the end of November or in December.
