In fact, international flight searches are experiencing an even higher spike - of 68 per cent. There's a cost to all this enthusiasm. According to Kayak, international economy airfares are up 51 per cent on average compared to pre-pandemic levels - that's an increase of $1826 per return journey.
Experiencing a rise of 10 per cent on average (or $400 per return journey), domestic economy airfares are somewhat sparing, with average economy return flights to the Gold Coast sitting at about $280. What a great excuse to continue to explore our own backyard.
