Nobody puts Istanbul in the corner when it comes to heavenly hotels. The Turkish city that straddles Europe and Asia is home to some spectacular stars - from a mustard-hued prison that's been turned into the magnificent Four Seasons At Sultanahmet to the waterside Ciragan Kempinski, which was once an Ottoman Palace.
But the arrival of The Peninsula (pictured), right on the Bosphorus Strait, is taking things to the next level, thanks to collaborations with exemplary locals.
Interiors by designer Zeynep Fadillioglu are a delicate fusion of contemporary flair and timeless traditional Turkish craftsmanship. Fatih Tutak - the chef of Istanbul's two-Michelin-starred restaurant of the same name - has designed the menu at the hotel's rooftop fine-diner Gallada.
And original artworks at the property have been hand-picked by Cafla Sarac, who's worked extensively with Turkey's Ministry of Culture to preserve and showcase the country's masterpieces. Enough said. peninsula.com
