Best for: The picturesque Gothic Quarter's labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets and warrens deserves a stroll. Check out the surreal works of architectural genius Antoni Gaudi at La Sagrada Familia before strolling the Passeig de Gracia to Casa Batllo featuring his characteristic curved facades and "scooped out" windows. Not to be missed is Park Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Best time to visit: Barcelona's Mediterranean climate is warm and subtropical, with mild but wet winters and hot summers. Avoid the crowds, long queues and the heat by travelling between April to June and September to October.
