Imagine if you could open the curtains of your room and stare straight at the timeless spires of Duomo di Milano - the Italian Republic's largest church, which took six centuries to complete. That is the promise of Palazzo Cordusio (pictured), a Gran Melia Hotel, which has just opened in the heart of Milan.
But there's much to love about the building the hotel is housed in, too. Designed by renowned Italian architect Luca Beltrami, it's a 19th-century masterpiece, complete with imposing windows, Juliet balconies and a majestic dome.
Check into one of the premier balcony rooms with views of either the Sforza Castle or the Duomo and creature comforts, such as king-sized beds, smart TVs, and shiny ensuites with bathtubs and Carner Barcelona amenities.
The hotel is home to a number of eating and drinking haunts, from cocktail bar Giardino Cordusio to Japanese restaurant Sachi. But our heart is set on the rooftop Italian joint Isola with more views of the cathedral. melia.com
