Best for: The village is best known for its 19 remarkably preserved 18th-century windmills in the picturesque countryside. The windmills can be explored by e-cycling through the grasslands of this UNESCO World Heritage site, or go beyond the usual experience by visiting Blokker windmill, which dates back to 1630. For the culinary curious, a Dutch cheese-making tour provides an opportunity to meet local cheese makers and learn about the process and history of cheese making, which dates back to pre-Christian times.
Best time to visit: June, or from September to November, when the leaves change and the cuisine and beers of the festive season unfold.
