What's good about it: Located on the right bank of the Rhone river, Tournon sits in the heart of the Rhone Valley in southern France.
Best for: Embark on a journey through the northern Rhone Valley wine country. Drive up to the Chapel of St Christophe, perched atop a hill, and view the vineyards surrounding the quaint town of Tain-l'Hermitage. Here, in the birthplace of syrah, you'll have the chance to savour full-bodied red wines and locally crafted Valrhona chocolate. Cross the pedestrian bridge in Tournon, a testament to the ingenuity of its creator, Marc Seguin. Explore the Doux Valley by riding on the Train des Gorges, a historic French steam train with a meter gauge.
Best time to visit: Between April and October when the vineyards and flowers are in full bloom, or visit in September to witness the magic of the wine harvest.
