If you find yourself in the town of Korumburra in Gippsland, Victoria, drop in at the Middle Hotel, which is making headlines after its parmigiana was judged the best in the state by the prestigious AHA (Vic) State Awards for Excellence.
The competition was stiff, with 16 finalists ranging from the Fifth Province in St Kilda, Melbourne, to Western Hotel in Ballarat. But - in the end - the $32 chicken parmigiana with thick-cut chips and a garden salad at the Middle Hotel won. The awards have also shone a light on a number of other gems. The gong for Best Family Dining went to the Old Town & Country Tavern in Wangaratta, while the Continental hotel in Sorrento won Best Hotel Accommodation and Best Pub Restaurant - Metropolitan for its onsite eatery, Audrey's. ahavicawards.com.au
