You may experience an unmistakable sense of space and serenity as you arrive at Amora Hotel Brisbane, which has just reopened in the city's CBD after a year-long $30 million face-lift. It may have something to do with the light-filled lobby and lashings of natural materials.

Or, perhaps, it's the Italian mandarin scent - with notes of amber, jasmine and patchouli - that fills the space. Upstairs in the 296 airy guest rooms, the theme continues, with a light palette of colours and pared-back wallpapers that add depth to the interiors without being jarring. Even the smallest rooms at the hotel are spacious, with 32 square metres of real estate, king-sized beds and large work desks.

But if you're in the mood to splash out, ask for one of the suites on the top two floors, with complimentary mini-bars and private balconies.
