Plus, a report on where Australians are travelling in 2024.
Your social media feed may give you the impression most people are flying overseas for holidays. But Wotif's crystal ball is here to bust that myth. New research by the travel website reveals 51 per cent of Australians are planning to travel to domestic destinations this year, with a whopping 83 per cent of them saying they're after cultural experiences nowhere else in the world can offer.
A point in case is the Victorian town of Bendigo, where gold rush legacy dates back to the 1850s. No wonder, the historic town has snagged the top gong on Wotif's Aussie Town of the Year Awards. Not to be left behind, Broken Hill in NSW and Stanthorpe in Queensland have taken the second and third spots on the list. "Aussie travellers are driven by a curiosity to experience the world around them and it's fantastic to see that pursuit of discovery leading many to find culture close to home," says Wotif travel expert, Sarah King. And we couldn't agree more. wotif.com/aussieawards
